Chapter 1: Thunderstorm

A thunderstorm. That’s what you would call rain hammering the roof of a home with shock waves of occasional thunder. It’s not often when the town of Summerville gets such severe weather, since it’s always clear skies and sunlight. But when it does, it hits like a hurricane.

M.C. woke with a start to said phenomenon, his body shivering as the storm hit. In nothing but his underwear, trembling and confused, he hopped from his bed and looked out the window. Small rainy pellets tackled the window as if they were trying to break in, only to follow with a few leaves flying in the background. He rubbed his arms as he tried to get the shakiness out of him, followed with a yawn.

“Rain?” He muttered, trying to keep himself awake. Almost as if the gods knew what he was thinking, another wave of thunder passed through the house, shaking the entire building as if lightning strikes nearby. This made him jump as it shook his entire body, now fully awake.

“Whoa!” He yelped, “That was a strong one!”

He couldn’t help but wonder after all this time, Summerville gets a storm as severe as this one. He grabbed the bottom of his window and lifted it open, only to get a face full of wind and rain in his face as it boomed right into his room. He immediately closed it right after, his face and chest damp from the pellets of water. With a click of his tongue, he wiped his face with his hands.

“I shouldn’t have done that… That storm isn’t a joke.” He said under his breath.

He was wide awake now, and it didn’t feel like he was going to be sleepy any time soon. He looked at his cellphone on his bed to see it was 11 PM. Late, but not enough to warrant going back to sleep now that he had one abrupt wake up call. He scratched his chin as he looked toward the weather in deep thought.

“I can always kill time until I get sleepy again, but what should I do?” He whispered to himself. As if his wishes were granted, his cell phone rumbled in his hand. Curiosity getting the better of him, a notification popped up saying he had a new text message. Swiping it, he sees it is from Eve.

“Eve… She must be freaking out from this weather.”

Eve, a friend of his from school, now turned lover. A shy blue-haired girl that he had known for awhile. He remembers helping her out with her family problems, and in turn, getting to know more about herself than he ever thought possible. The way her hair trails down from blue to blonde right at the tips, her cute cat-ear hoodie that hides her true beauty, and just the most adorable girl that he knows. He couldn’t help but smile at the thought of her, knowing how much she means to him.

Recollecting his thoughts, he shook his head and looked at the text:

---

Eve: Hey, are you still awake?

Still smiling, his fingers type up a message.

M.C.: I am now. Crazy weather we’re having, right?

Eve: I know!! It came out of nowhere, and everyone’s freaking out about it! LOL!

M.C.: Freaking out how?

Eve: Grace is cursing up a storm about how it’s keeping her awake. And Tuuku is in a rush to take everything off the roof and putting it inside the building. You can’t have a tent on a roof in a thunderstorm! It’ll blow off!

M.C.: Makes sense, he’s got a business to take care of too. But what about Odette?

Eve: She’s outside shouting at the weather, like a crazy person.

M.C.: Sounds like her.

Eve: What about you? Are you alright?

M.C.: I am, just a little shaken up. I didn’t want this thunderstorm to be my personal alarm clock, though.

Eve: Hehe, neither did we, but I don’t think we have a choice.

M.C.: Hopefully it will all die down tomorrow.

Eve: I hope so! My weather app is telling me that it’s going to be cloudy tomorrow. So it should be all good by then.

M.C.: Sounds good. Well, I’m going to try and sleep this off. I don’t want this ruining the weekend for me.

Eve: Alright. And hey, give me a call or text tomorrow. Maybe we can do something together? More Street Kombat maybe?

He couldn’t help but smile. This girl wanted his attention and to know he was there for her, and she was the sweetest person he knew, unlike the others he had met.

M.C.: Maybe! Let’s brainstorm about it tomorrow and see what we come up with.

Eve: Alright. Sleep well, okay? Love you. XO

M.C.: Love you too. Good night!

After that, a small photo was attached to her next message. Pulling it up, he sees Eve giving out a peace sign with her fingers, while also puckering her lips up as if she were kissing. She wore nothing but a tanktop and her bed hair, giving the impression she was in her pajamas or underwear. In the background was Grace-- Eve’s sister and an especially hot red head-- holding her head as if the whole apartment was noisy. Another person could be seen from the front door window as they were shaking their fist at the weather, but M.C. couldn’t tell if it was Odette or Tuuku taking their anger out on it. Seeing that he was getting no more responses, he placed his phone down on the bed, with he along with it. He sighed as he crossed his arms behind his head and looked toward the ceiling as his eyes were starting to flutter, a sign that sleep was about to overtake him. He weakly smiled.

“Some personal time with Eve would be awesome… I wouldn’t want it to be anyone else.” He said, drifting off to sleep and looking forward to the day that comes, or the cloudy day, rather.
